{"id":3908,"date":"2021-05-13T10:22:05","date_gmt":"2021-05-13T13:22:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambipar.com\/uk\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=3908"},"modified":"2021-06-10T13:10:44","modified_gmt":"2021-06-10T16:10:44","slug":"nitrocellulose-un2556","status":"publish","type":"case_study","link":"https:\/\/ambipar.com\/uk\/case-studies\/nitrocellulose-un2556\/","title":{"rendered":"Technical Assessment &#038; Treatment of Containerised Nitrocellulose (UN2556)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following customs inspections in the Port of Genoa, Italy, Ambipar Response were mobilised on several occasions to assess and treat consignments of UN2556 NITROCELLULOSE WITH ALCOHOL (not less than 25% alcohol, by mass, and not more than 12.6% nitrogen, by dry mass) Class 4.1 PG2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nitrocellulose damped with water or alcohol may dry out if the damping agent is allowed to evaporate. The Nitrocellulose is subsequently sensitive to impact and heat (e.g. due to friction) and poses an explosion hazard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Project Works:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following onsite health, safety and security induction training at the port, Ambipar\u2019s specialist response teams undertook initial gas monitoring with a portable gas detector at the entrance to all the containers. Having been previously vented by members of the Genoese Fire Service, the % LEL reading for combustible gases\/vapours was zero, O2 reading was normal at 20.9% and the H2S reading was zero. The CO2 detector was removed as ethanol cross interferes with the CO2 reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On all occasions, Ambipar\u2019s personnel proceeded to repackage the Nitrocellulose into new sealed salvage drums to prevent any further evaporation. On one occasion, our team unloaded 720 x 26kg boxes by hand before reloading them into new 40\u2019 ISO Containers for onward transport.
