The City of S\u00e3o Carlos, through the departments of Government, Public Security, and Civil Defense, held a new meeting last week with Rumo Log\u00edstica Company to align the operationalization of the Contingency Plan during the rainy season (2023\/2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current needs were discussed, as well as the necessary equipment to reduce vulnerability, especially in the area of the Cristo Roundabout, one of the flood-prone areas in the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rumo has a readiness contract with the company Ambipar<\/strong>, which operates in more than 40 countries and will once again be available to Civil Defense for support in responding to emergencies related to floods, inundations, and landslides resulting from rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Currently, Rumo has cameras and river level sensors connected directly to the CCO (Operational Control Center) in Curitiba, which immediately activates the Civil Defense of S\u00e3o Carlos. The Civil Defense then determines the direct actions for field teams. Since last year, Rumo’s alert system is also integrated with the Operational Control Center of the Municipal Guard of S\u00e3o Carlos, a collaborative effort that provides real-time information to all involved parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Samir Gardini, Secretary of Public Security, emphasizes that since last year, the City has been working with Rumo and various other institutions to improve the contingency plan. “Today was another step we took; Rumo provided solutions, and we aligned the activation of sirens and panels based on the simulation results, all to improve actions in times of crisis.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gardini also highlighted the establishment of a new flow of real-time information with Civil Defense, including rainfall forecasts and river levels, especially in the Cristo region, where monitoring is already conducted by Rumo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Marcelo Rodrigues, Government Relations at Rumo, spoke about the importance of synergy between the company and the City, aiming to bring security to the population around the railway. “It was a very positive meeting with the municipality, integrating actions that are the responsibility of Rumo and the municipality of S\u00e3o Carlos, thus contributing to alleviate all impacts on the drainage part of the Cristo region.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Secretary of Government, Netto Donato, mentioned that several actions are being taken to bring more security to these vulnerable areas, and Rumo’s initiative to provide equipment meets the needs of the municipality. “Every day we are seeking new solutions to reduce the impacts of rains in these regions; there are several ongoing projects, and any help is welcome. We thank Rumo for making a reputable company available to Civil Defense to provide emergency support with equipment and personnel specialized in flood situations,” Netto concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rumo has already started building structures consisting of curved crossings and channeling to combat floods in the Cristo Roundabout region by reconfiguring the railway crossing over the Monjolinho Stream, increasing the flow and drainage of accumulated water to prevent flooding on days of heavy rain\u2014an investment that is expected to reach R$ 80 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The City has also completed the expansion of the bridge in Recreio dos Bandeirantes over the Monjolinho Stream downstream of the railway line, an investment of R$ 2.3 million. Another project underway in the Cristo region is the channeling of the Mineirinho stream at the entrance of the Monjolinho stream, where SAAE (Water and Sewage Service) will also change the sewer line layout in this area\u2014an investment of R$ 1.8 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
