The 2023 edition of the Brazil Climate Summit will discuss initiatives highlighting Brazil’s role in the global race for decarbonizing economies. The goal is to showcase the country’s potential to act as a hub for climate solutions worldwide – not only for reducing its own emissions but also for those of other nations while fostering sustainable economic development. In this context, the event emphasizes the importance of private sector involvement and the potential attraction of international capital to accelerate low-carbon businesses on a global scale. The event will take place at “The Forum,” a meeting and discussion space at Columbia University in New York on September 13 and 14.
The conference, organized by students of the institution, alumni, Brazilian business leaders, and Columbia Global Center – RJ, will coincide with the New York Climate Week, aiming to position Brazil before the international community as a powerhouse of solutions for the climate crisis and promoting effective connections and collaborations between national and global leaders working toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
One of the highlighted topics will be green reindustrialization as a promising opportunity to boost the Brazilian economy. By combining traditional sectors with sustainable practices and clean technologies, the country can diversify its economic matrix, create jobs, and attract investments aligned with the transition to a low-carbon economy. Another key theme is the preparation and legacy that Brazil intends to leave with the Presidency of the G20 in 2024 and COP30 in 2025, two years when the world’s attention will turn to the country.
The Brazil Climate Summit will also serve as a platform for presenting concrete pathways for global challenges and opportunities, such as green hydrogen, biomass and biofuels, as well as addressing sustainable and resilient agricultural systems, among other topics.
The event expects to host more than 500 participants, including a qualified and relevant foreign audience. It will feature a specialized and diverse set of renowned speakers from the Brazilian and international communities.
The event will be livestreamed on the conference website, allowing access to all lectures and discussion panels on the event’s website (see link below).
Startup Challenge: This year’s Brazil Climate Summit will promote a “Startup Challenge,” a call aimed at startups to present innovative solutions in the fight against climate change. It will offer opportunities for connections with influential investors and mentors in the sector.
The finalists startups will have the chance to participate in an exclusive networking session with key stakeholders, including companies, academia, NGOs, and governments. They will present their pitches to a jury of experts, undergoing a rigorous analysis process. Criteria such as solution scalability, potential impact on climate challenges, entrepreneurial profile, degree of innovation, and business model will be considered.
The selection of startups will be conducted by the specialized team of Numerik, an open innovation and ESG consultancy. The goal is to position Brazilian startups’ innovation and promote strategic partnerships.
