One of our clients experienced a spill of Potassium Hydroxide (UN1814) at one of their UK depots on 8th April 2019, our spill response team were mobilised to assess the situation, remediate any environmental impacts and minimise any human health risks and disruption to operations at the depot.
Approximately 700 litres of Potassium Hydroxide solution had leaked from a faulty IBC loaded inside a 40’ trailer which was parked inside a warehouse over the weekend.
Project Works:
Ambipar’s specialist response team arrived on-site within 2 hrs of receiving a call from our client and rapidly assessed the incident. Initial remediation was undertaken using absorbent granules and pads to limit migration whilst the remaining chemical was transferred safely to another IBC.
Our team removed other cargo from the trailer to minimise further contamination and remediated the client’s trailer, tractor unit and warehouse using chemical absorbents.
Results:
Using specialist equipment, Ambipar’s team cleaned the contaminated vehicle and concrete floor of the warehouse and removed all identified risks and contaminated waste.
All works were verified by the client’s depot manager.
