Ambipar Response assisted the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency (MCA) in delivering a two-part introductory into oil spills combining theory and practical events, participants from local councils, emergency services and harbour masters were invited to attend Hayling Island where both parts took place.
The staff members of Hayling Island Lifeboat Station kindly allowed us to use their meeting room which was where the theory part of oil spills was discussed, and the practical side took place at the inner harbour.
Theory covering cause’s of a spill, equipment used in oil spill clean-up, containment methods, Shoreline Clean-up Assessment Technique (SCAT), government protocol and communication, Tactical Coordination Group (TCG) were discussed.
After learning the theory side of boom deployment it was now time to do the practical side of things by deploying multiple sections of shore sealing boom, along with different methods of anchoring the boom into position; and setting up tripping buoys.
We would like to thank the Hayling Island Sailing Club who put on lunch for the delegates.
