Is it possible to survive and even ride the wave caused by technological transformation when it reaches the corporate world? That is the theme of the third episode of the series ‘Pacto Com o Futuro – Everything you need to understand now about ESG,’ a new communication project by the UN Global Compact in Brazil, in partnership with CBN, with the support of the Ambipar Group. In this week’s episode, available on all audio platforms and CBN’s YouTube channel, journalist Milton Jung and Carlo Pereira, CEO of Pacto Global, welcome Julio Campos, CEO of Compra Agora.
“Artificial Intelligence is here; it is a reality. The world is undergoing a profound transformation because of it, and governments undoubtedly cannot regulate all of this at the required speed. Companies are coming in strongly. What we need to do is bring them in, and that is the role of the Global Compact, to build the future we want,” observed Carlo Pereira in his scenario analysis.
The conversation revolved around the impacts generated by innovations such as artificial technology in companies and their effects on leaders and employees. “Compra Agora is a performance company, a technology company that uses all of its artificial intelligence. But the future is in the hands of the leader, in how they use this technology. It will be what the leaders in formation want it to be. It depends a lot on the responsibility of how this technology is used to integrate humanity. The future is technological, but above all, human,” Julio argued.
Milton Jung pointed out that the topic connects with the ESG acronym because it is associated with the fact that leaders need to be concerned about the inequality that this technology can generate and the distancing of the workforce. “Artificial Intelligence is becoming popular at the same time that it is frightening people with how it is being used,” analyzed the journalist.
For Carlo, humanity has witnessed in various moments how industrial evolutions and automation have made many jobs simply cease to exist. “But we, as leaders, have to worry about this transition so that it is fair and does not cause more inequality. How do we make technology help solve this problem, which is so significant in Brazil and the world?” he questioned.
Julio believes that the solution to this problem necessarily involves the ethics of employers. “Technology arrives, and new jobs begin to appear. It is the leader’s responsibility to create training for these people to be able to take on new roles and to generate constant knowledge for the new positions that will arise,” he believes.
The videocast series will have a total of 12 episodes, released weekly until January 2024, contributing to disseminating knowledge and demystifying a concept still abstract for different sectors of the population. ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance, in English) is the acronym that refers to companies’ environmental, social, and governance practices. And the theme this week falls within the G.
