Ambipar, an experienced emergency response information provider (ERI provider), operates a state-of-the-art response center staffed 24-hours a day with qualified personnel ready to provide emergency response and incident mitigation information to first responders, State or Federal agencies responding to or investigating an incident, common carriers, and others. When applicable, Ambipar provides registrants with information and guidance regarding the Federal incident reporting and notification requirements of Part 171, release notification requirements for hazardous substances, and links to State spill reporting requirements and telephone numbers. In the event of a spill requiring an environmental response, Ambipar can provide listings of environmental cleanup resources listed by state or region.
Authorized Use
The Ambipar Emergency Response Telephone Number may be used by registered shippers for hazardous materials shipments that originate from within the United States. The emergency response telephone numbers may also be used by registered companies for other specified purposes, as authorized by Ambipar.
Ambipar authorizes each Registrant to use its emergency response telephone numbers for:
- Hazardous materials shipping papers;
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS);
- Hazard Communication Labels;
- Posting at registered facilities*;
- Tier II chemical inventory forms for facilities subject to EPA’s EPCRA requirements; and
- Approved specialty accounts
*The Ambipar domestic emergency response telephone number may be posted on gates, fences or other facility fixtures at registered locations. Aluminum signs or vinyl decals are available. Registered facilities may include bulk storage facilities, unattended fueling sites, and yards where vehicles used to transport hazardous materials are parked.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TELEPHONE NUMBER
Paragraph (a) and (a)(1)
A person who offers a hazardous material for transportation must provide an emergency response telephone number for use in the event of an emergency involving the hazardous material. The telephone number must be monitored at all times the hazardous material is in transportation, including storage incidental to transportation.
Paragraph (a)(2)
The telephone number must be a person who is either knowledgeable of the hazardous material being shipped and has comprehensive emergency response and incident mitigation information for that material, or has immediate access to a person who possesses such knowledge and information. A telephone number that requires a call back (such as an answering service, answering machine, or beeper device) does not meet the requirements.
Paragraph (a)(3)
The telephone number must be entered on a shipping paper immediately following the description of the hazardous material as required; or in the manner prescribed in paragraph (b) of this section in a prominent, readily identifiable, and clearly visible manner that allows the information to be easily and quickly found, such as by highlighting, use of a larger font or a font that is a different color from other text and information, or otherwise setting the information apart to provide for quick and easy recognition. The offeror may use one of the methods prescribed in this paragraph only if the telephone number applies to each hazardous material entered on the shipping paper, and if it is indicated that the telephone number is for emergency response information (for example: “EMERGENCY CONTACT: * * *”).
Paragraph (b)(2)
When using an emergency response information provider (ERI provider), the telephone number required by paragraph (a) of this section must be the number of an agency or organization capable of, and accepting responsibility for, providing the detailed information required by paragraph (a)(2) of this section. The person who is registered with the ERI provider must ensure that the agency or organization has received current information on the material before it is offered for transportation. The person who is registered with the ERI provider must be identified by name, or contract number or other unique identifier assigned by the ERI provider, on the shipping paper immediately before, after, above, or below the emergency response telephone number in a prominent, readily identifiable, and clearly visible manner that allows the information to be easily and quickly found, unless the name or identifier is entered elsewhere in a prominent manner as provided in paragraph (b)(1) of this section.
