Another speaker on the panel discussing decarbonization, Commercial Manager Patrícia Lia Brentano also mentioned an innovation from the Itapoá port in Santa Catarina. “We managed to validate how much is spent per container handled, how much carbon this generates. Then, together with Ambipar (an environmental management company), we were able to validate and price it for when customers need it.”
The commercial manager explains: “For example, they have a carbon liability, they need to credit themselves to reduce their emission rate for the year, so they go to the portal, enter the handled containers, and check how much carbon emission occurred in the port operation at Porto Itapoá. With this, they can verify the generated price and make that purchase, which is certified by Ambipar.”
