The biocapsule technology was created from the demand of pharmaceutical industries for the sustainable disposal of empty gelatin capsules.

The storm that hit the city of São Sebastião, in the northern coast of São Paulo, during Carnival 2023 caused landslides, house collapses, and deforested over 200 hectares of forest area. Most of this area has been under restoration since the beginning of this year thanks to the use of biocapsules with seeds launched by drones, in a partnership between the environmental management company Ambipar and the Coastal Conservation Institute (ICC).

The biocapsule technology was created two years ago by Ambipar based on a demand from pharmaceutical industries, which sought a sustainable way to dispose of empty gelatin capsules.
