The new alliance aims to meet the growing demand for circular packaging solutions.
In a new initiative that promises to strengthen the circular economy in Brazil, Ambipar (AMBP3) and Dow announced on Tuesday (29) the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create an advanced platform for recycling post-consumer plastics in Latin America.
The partnership aims to transform plastic waste into high-value products, integrating innovative collection and recycling processes with Dow’s cutting-edge technology in material science.
This partnership combines Ambipar’s broad reach in waste management with Dow’s expertise in materials. The new alliance aims to meet the growing demand for circular packaging solutions and strengthen collectors’ cooperatives, reducing improper plastic disposal.
Initially, the companies’ goal is to expand polyethylene recycling from 2,000 to 60,000 tons annually by 2030 and create the first integrated center for the circular economy of polyethylene plastics in Brazil.
“This partnership is a crucial step towards the sustainable future of the country, where plastic waste becomes valuable resources,” said Leticia Jensen, Vice President of Dow Latin America. Tercio Borlenghi Junior, CEO of Ambipar, further highlighted the positive environmental impact: “We are establishing a new standard for circular business in Brazil and significantly reducing carbon emissions.”
The partnership’s approach will be gradual, with plans to build new mechanical recycling facilities and develop a detailed financial model to ensure that the operation is profitable and efficient. Rafael Tello, Vice President of Sustainability at Ambipar, emphasized the transformative impact of the project: “This union represents a convergence of values and commitments that will redefine how society perceives the circular economy and the environment.”
