São Paulo, December 12, 2024 – Ambipar, a global leader in environmental solutions, in partnership with the University of São Paulo (USP), inaugurated the Climate and Sustainability Research and Innovation Center (USPproClima) this Thursday (12). Ambipar will invest R$ 5 million over the next five years and will support USP in developing decarbonization initiatives to make the university carbon neutral by the end of 2025 – becoming one of the first universities in the world to achieve this status.
USPproClima will focus on five research areas: Carbon Management and Nature-Based Solutions, Disaster Prevention, ESG, Circular Economy, and Solid Waste Management and Renewable Energy Generation. Technologies used will include photovoltaic energy and biodigesters, an innovative system that transforms organic waste into energy, licensed for operation in several cities by the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo (Cetesb).
USPproClima will be located on the university’s São Paulo campus and will have among its advisors former Environment Minister and President of Ambipar’s Global Sustainability Committee, Izabella Teixeira, as well as specialists, researchers, and professors who will work in partnership with the company to develop solutions that benefit society and the planet.
“The partnership between Ambipar and research centers at educational institutions is crucial for connecting the needs of the environmental market, that is, the practical universe to researchers and vice versa. The goal is to create synergistic and agile ecosystems that promote economic development, technological competitiveness, and sustainability,” says Gabriel Estevam, Corporate Director of Research, Development, and Innovation at Ambipar.
“Ambipar is a visionary company, a pioneer in environmental solutions, and USP is a highly renowned university, the only one in the country ranked among the world’s top 100. We are combining our expertise to promote sustainable innovation for research that can drive the global climate landscape,” emphasizes USPproClima coordinator, Patrícia Iglecias.
