São Paulo, December 18, 2024 – Ambipar Circular and ANCAT (National Association of Recyclable Material Collectors) will work to transform recycling cooperatives in various regions of Brazil with the aim of accelerating the businesses of these organizations through the implementation of a management system that improves the organization and infrastructure of the cooperatives. The model, which operates through the structuring of Waste Sorting Centers, will be presented during ExpoCatadores 2024, held at the Anhembi Exhibition Pavilion, in São Paulo, from December 18 to 20.
“Ambipar, with its environmental solutions and expertise, combined with ANCAT’s extensive network of cooperatives, will enhance the potential for transformation with a high impact on reverse logistics, enabling increased productivity, decent working conditions, and income generation for these cooperatives,” explains Tercio Borlenghi Junior, CEO of Ambipar.
Ambipar Circular’s booth at ExpoCatadores is approximately 100 m² and features a dynamic demonstration of the waste sorting operation with a standardized layout model and management focused on productivity. The booth includes operating conveyor belts and balers that showcase how the model works in practice. The exhibit also provides data proving the benefits for cooperative members in terms of productivity and income gains.
The booth and other spaces at ExpoCatadores will also display some units of electric tricycles, known as tuk-tuks. These vehicles are adapted for waste collection and can become an additional work tool for cooperatives adopting the business and management model developed by Ambipar Circular.
“The cooperative business acceleration model will be based on a combination of physical and financial investments to increase the cooperatives’ productivity, provide access to the recycling market by selling directly to recycling industries without intermediaries, and raise the price of recycled materials. It will also expand the business opportunities for service contracts to help the cooperatives collect more waste through improved structures with profitability and efficiency,” says Roberto Rocha, president of ANCAT.
Tuk-tuk raffle
During the event, Ambipar Circular will raffle five units of tricycles adapted for waste collection, the tuk-tuks. Cooperatives visiting the booth and registering for the raffle, scheduled to take place on the event’s last day, will be eligible to participate.
Lecture and debate schedule
Ambipar will also participate in debates and lectures held during ExpoCatadores 2024.
On December 19, at 2:00 PM, Maíra Pereira, director of institutional relations for Ambipar’s post-consumption unit, will participate in the “Dialogue Circle: the potential of COP 30 in Belém – PA in 2025 for collector organizations and the Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs”, alongside Marcos Ilório, a plastic specialist and technical consultant for Ambipar post-consumption.
On the same day, December 19, at 3:00 PM, the “Workshop: Cooperative Businesses in the Circular Economy: Experiences of Collectors in the Recycling Chain” will take place. The event will be moderated by Juliana Navea, director of operations for Ambipar’s post-consumption unit, and Carlos Zafred, executive director of ABRASEL. After a brief presentation by Ambipar Circular, experiences of working with cooperatives will be shared, with the participation of Bispo Catador from Kombosa Seletiva, Carlos Viana and Elisabete Matos from the Santa Bárbara D’Oeste (SP) cooperative, and a representative from ACAMAR.
Ambipar will also be honored with the “Catador Friend” Seal on the second day of the event, recognizing the company’s contribution to strengthening initiatives that support collector associations and cooperatives, essential for building sustainable and inclusive recycling in the country.
