Ambipar, a Brazilian multinational leader in environmental management, has been strategically expanding to serve its clients with quality, commitment, and agility. To achieve this, it has been investing in acquisitions of multinational companies, such as Chilean companies Disal and Suatrans. Additionally, Ambipar operates in 18 countries across five continents.
Apart from the international market, the company has a strong presence in various regions of Brazil, with significant activity in the Northeast. These acquisitions serve as a means to promote Ambipar’s growth and broaden its portfolio of services.
Get to know the companies acquired by Ambipar in the Northeast:
Founded in 2011, AFC Environmental Solutions specializes in the collection, management, transportation, treatment, and final disposal of industrial waste. Furthermore, it offers integrated and customized environmental management solutions for each client.
The company’s initial activities began with an effluent treatment center in the Suape Port Complex. Its operations remain focused entirely in the Northeast region, specifically in the states of Pernambuco, Paraíba, and Rio Grande do Norte.
In addition to its port-related operations, AFC has an industrial area spanning 74,000 square meters in Cabo de Santo Agostinho (PE), equipped with its own fleet monitored by GPS and an effluent treatment station featuring eight discharge bays operating continuously.
With the aim of continuing both organic and inorganic expansion in the Northeast, Ambipar acquired AFC Environmental Solutions in February. The focus is to sustain integrated solutions management for industrial waste and implement circular economy practices. Moreover, AFC enhances Ambipar’s portfolio with environmentally focused services throughout Brazil.
MCZ Environmental Solutions specializes exclusively in waste management operations for private entities in Alagoas.
In late October, Ambipar and Environmental ESG Participações announced the acquisition of 100% of MCZ, carried out through its indirect subsidiary, Ambipar Environment Nordeste. This acquisition serves to expand Ambipar’s presence in the region, particularly in Alagoas, while strengthening the offering of comprehensive waste management and valorization solutions.
After the acquisition and fulfillment of all contract conditions, MCZ will be renamed Ambipar Nordeste Alagoas.
Although not originally from the Northeast, Metal Ar Engineering is a mining company that expanded its operations to various states, including Alagoas and Bahia. Established in 1967, the company provides environmentally-oriented mining solutions, utilizing machinery and technology-equipped equipment to deliver higher quality and safety in its services.
Currently, the company is engaged in circular economy-oriented waste management, environmental disinfection, waste co-processing, recyclables valorization, MetalMine (an integrated and comprehensive system for mine operation management and optimization), drilling, loading, and rock transportation, all with a focus on mining.
In June, Ambipar announced the acquisition of Metal Ar Engineering through its direct subsidiary, Environmental Participações. According to the company, this acquisition “allows the company to enter the mining sector and offer total waste management solutions, diversify the client portfolio, and generate future cross-selling, in line with its strategic growth plan, capturing synergies and maximizing margins and returns.”
In 2020, Metal Ar reported a net revenue of R$ 114 million. Apart from Alagoas, the company operates in São Paulo (its main office), Minas Gerais, and Goiás.
Established in 2013 in Bahia, Ecológica Nordeste operates in the waste management sector, providing services such as collection, transportation, and disposal of Class I and II waste. The company is a pioneer in its segment in the region, having announced its first waste grinding and blending unit for co-processing with state-of-the-art technology in the municipality of Simões Filho (BA).

In June, Ambipar announced the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of Ecológica Nordeste. The company states that the Bahia-based company was the first of its kind in the region.
In addition to further expanding the company’s presence in the Northeast, the acquisition of Ecológica firmly reinforces the company’s technological leadership in providing comprehensive waste management solutions. The new subsidiary will be able to broaden the scope of contracts by supplying processed waste as raw material to cement kilns, in addition to generating synergies in waste valorization.
