An important document focused on emergency response preparedness has been published in the USA, with significant contribution from Ambipar Response USA. The work in question is the Special Report 339 – “Preparing for LNG by Rail Tank Car.” A Review of a U.S. DOT Safety Research, Testing, and Analysis Initiative prepared by the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine of the USA.
When translated into Portuguese, the report “Preparação para GNL por vagão-tanque: uma revisão de uma iniciativa de pesquisa, teste e análise de segurança do DOT dos EUA” contains a comprehensive action plan based on safety programs that will open opportunities for future research.
The document originated after the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) was directed to enter into an agreement with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) to convene a committee of independent experts to study the safe transportation of LNG by rail tank car.
For the next phase of the study, a technical report is already planned, which will consider the experience of transporting LNG in other locations, including tanker ships and tanker trucks. The research will also examine the applicability of existing emergency response plans, protocols, and guidelines to respond to any potential hazardous materials incidents.
