Founded in 2016, Ambipar Triciclo emerged to create and operate solutions focused on sustainable development. Currently, it is focused on reverse logistics and promoting voluntary collection through its eco-points and voluntary collection programs.
The company works with a complete and structured reverse logistics program. The chain properly treats the waste and also generates income and qualified labor. Here are the steps:
The Retorna Machine is, as the name suggests, a machine in which the user, with a created Ambipar Triciclo account, accesses and deposits containers with barcodes such as long-life, steel, aluminum, glass, and plastic. With each waste insertion, the user receives and accumulates tricoins (Triciclo points) that can be exchanged for benefits. To participate, users need to register on the Ambipar Triciclo app, available for Android and iOS, at the Retorna Machine itself, or on the institutional website.
Discarding unused medications is a common issue in Brazilian households. The problem is that improper disposal can contaminate and consequently have negative impacts on the environment. To prevent this, Ambipar Triciclo created Recicla Pharma, a machine with the same principle as the Retorna Machine. In this case, users can dispose of expired or unused pharmaceuticals, as well as their packaging (boxes and leaflets) and other related items like ampoules, tubes, and empty aerosols. Tricoins are awarded when the user possesses and accesses their account through Pharma, depositing their waste in this category and accumulating points to exchange for benefits.
Voluntary selective collection needs to be encouraged. Ambipar Triciclo knows this and created the Triciclo Loyalty Program, where each recyclable post-consumer waste is worth socio-environmental benefits!
Voluntary solid waste collection points are places where residents of the region voluntarily bring electronics, glass, plastics, papers, and other recyclable materials. At Ambipar Triciclo’s eco-points, each delivery generates tricoins — points that can be exchanged for various benefits such as credit for public transportation (Cartão BOM, Bilhete Único, and MTU), mobile phone credits, discounts on electricity bills (Enel), points at bookstores (SaraivaPlus), and even money in a digital bank account (PagBank). Users can also choose to donate tricoins to help philanthropic institutions, Ambipar Triciclo’s partners.
Each type of material generates a specific number of points; for example, an aluminum can equals 15 tricoins. The value of each type of material and the benefits exchange information can be checked on the website www.triciclo.eco.br.
Ambipar Triciclo’s largest and most diverse eco-point, Deixaki, is an important recycling project as it accommodates materials of various types and sizes. It features a new automated drop’n’go system, which simplifies waste disposal and offers options for new categories ranging from simple to complex: common packaging, daily use items, glass, electronics, and scrap metal. These are difficult-to-recycle wastes as suitable disposal options are unknown to most of the population. Its operation involves separating these materials into ecobags, which can be obtained from the container itself. Within a period of up to 7 business days, each bag is weighed to assign tricoins to the user’s account who used the Triciclo app during the disposal process at Deixaki.
Ambipar, a leader in environmental management, announced the acquisition of Triciclo in 2021 with the aim of accelerating its growth, enhancing Ambipar’s synergy, and enabling large-scale operations nationwide and throughout the American continent.
The expansion plan was based on massive investment in digital eco-points, the development of technology and new equipment, integrating digital currency (tricoin) with carbon credits and other financial services, as well as integrating these digital eco-points with media and communication campaigns of private sector companies.
For Ambipar, this acquisition: enhances its service portfolio by having an environmental monetization and loyalty program, as well as a highly scalable and technological system of digital eco-points; incorporates know-how on universalizing the reverse logistics system with marketing campaigns; expands its opportunities in carbon markets and financial services; and reinforces the pillars of Environment and Social of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
