Cooperdreams gets a new warehouse and strengthens recycling in Nova Odessa

Partnership between Consimares, Ambipar, and the City Hall ensures modern infrastructure and more dignity for the recyclers of the cooperative.

During the accountability meeting for the 2nd phase of the “Recicla Junto” Program held last Thursday (21) at the Ambipar Environment headquarters, Mayor Cláudio Schooder (Leitinho) confirmed the upcoming move of Coopersonhos (Cooperative for the Service and Production of Reusable and Recyclable Materials of Nova Odessa) to a new warehouse, fully adapted and equipped for recycling activities, located in the Fritz Berzin Industrial Park.

This improvement was made possible through the partnership between the City of Nova Odessa, Consimares (Consortium for Solid Waste Management in the Campinas Metropolitan Region, with Nova Odessa as the headquarters), and Ambipar, a Brazilian multinational renowned for environmental solutions. The initiative also receives support from companies Tetra Pak, Dow, and CBA (Brazilian Aluminum Company).

Currently, Coopersonhos operates in an old warehouse in Jardim Conceição. Founded in the early 2000s, the cooperative receives support from the Municipality, including a truck and driver to assist in the work of the recyclers. There are about 10 cooperative members today.

The new space, leased by the Municipality, is in its final phase of adaptations and assembly, including three pieces of equipment made possible by private initiative – a conveyor belt, a press, and a winch. The cooperative members also receive training and technical support from the project, aiming for greater safety and productivity in the process of receiving, sorting, and processing recyclables for sale.

In addition to Leitinho, the mayor of Elias Fausto and president of the Consortium, Maurício Baroni, executives from the multinational, GAEMA prosecutors, council members, technicians from the city halls, and social leaders from the cooperatives benefited by “Recicla Junto” attended the event, including Noêmia de Oliveira from Coopersonhos of Nova Odessa.

“The ‘Recicla Junto’ program is a very important project for the cities that are part of Consimares. We already have five recycling cooperatives supported by this beautiful initiative, a partnership between the Public Sector and the Private Sector that is working, generating jobs and income for many people, and helping the city halls with selective collection and recycling. We must always support partnerships like this,” said Mayor Leitinho to those present.

“There, we will give dignity to our cooperative recyclers, income, and also respect, which is what these families need the most. I am very happy to participate in this historic moment here in Nova Odessa, as we build together a better future for our children and grandchildren through recycling,” added the mayor of Nova Odessa.

For Noêmia de Oliveira, the relocation of Coopersonhos to the new, much more suitable and modern warehouse, “means a lot for the cooperative and the mothers who work there.” “We would like to thank the support of the Consimares team, Ambipar, and the City of Nova Odessa for this partnership, because selective collection is an essential job for the city and generates jobs and income for our cooperatives. The Cooperative is everything to me,” she concluded.

Created just over a year ago, the Recicla Program’s main goal is to promote selective collection and the correct disposal of recyclable solid waste in the Consortium’s municipalities, diverting these materials from landfills and improper disposal.

There are already five recycling cooperatives supported by the project, which adopt a pioneering model of selective collection and circular economy in their operations, developed and executed by Ambipar. The initiative significantly contributes to selective collection in the region, organizes the recycling chain, and promotes a humanized circular economy, with more job generation, income, and respect for recycling professionals.

“We are seeking resources from the private sector and mobilizing various actors for the shared responsibility of reverse logistics, aiming for a drastic reduction in waste landfilling,” added Mimo Ravagnani, superintendent of the Consortium.
