A partnership between Ambipar Triciclo, Ambev, and Festval will provide five machines in the capital of Paraná state. The first two were installed on the 7th of this month.

São Paulo, July 11, 2023 – Since the 7th of this month, the capital of Paraná state has been equipped with two recycling machines that exchange disposable packaging for points redeemable for various benefits. The “Retorna Machine” are machines developed by Ambipar Triciclo that receive aluminum, steel, general plastics, long-life, glass, and other recyclable materials, generating “tricoins” for users.

For each deposited packaging, the user receives tricoins that can be used for telephone accounts, energy, public transportation, bookstores, and even digital banks. The first step for users to be rewarded by the Triciclo Loyalty Program is to register on the Ambipar Triciclo app or website and then start depositing recyclables to accumulate tricoins, which are the program’s currency.

Ambipar Triciclo’s role with the Retorna Machines is to carry out the entire process of collection, transportation, and disposal of recyclables, as well as managing the scoring and exchanging of tricoin currency. Currently, the company has over 300 collection points spread across Brazil and 250,000 users. By 2024, the installation of machines at an additional 600 points is planned.

Since the program was initiated by the company, around 25 million packages have already been recycled. In Curitiba, the machines are sponsored by Ambev, which already has a project in the city involving the Corona Returnable.

The first two machines were installed at Festval network stores in Batel, at Coronel Dulcídio Street, 880, and Brigadeiro Franco Street, 641 – Mercês. The installation of three more machines in other group stores is also planned: Professor Álvaro Jorge Street, 75 (Água Verde), Mateus Leme Street, 1850 (Centro Cívico), and Vereador Toaldo Túlio Avenue, 420 (Santa Felicidade).

Felipe Lagrotta Nassar Cury, CEO of Ambipar Triciclo, says that the machines contribute to the environment and environmental education. “With Curitiba (PR), we’ve reached the mark of 13 capitals. We’ve noticed that this technology and this citizen incentive format are being well accepted by our society as a whole, and Curitiba, as a model city for Brazil in terms of sustainability and innovation, will certainly have enormous adoption,” he says.

In Brazil, the recycling rate is only 4%, while in Curitiba, it is 22.5%. In Germany, for example, the rate is 67%.
