Equatorial activates the ‘Retorna Machine,’ the first intelligent recycling machine in Maranhão

The Energy Efficiency Program, E+ Recycling by Equatorial Maranhão, which exchanges recyclable materials for discounts on electricity bills at collection points, will also feature self-service machines, where it will be possible to dispose of waste and subsequently receive this discount.

The equipment, called Retorna Machine, will be spread throughout strategic points in Maranhão by the end of the year. The first machine will start operating this Wednesday (11) at 3 PM, at the Shopping do Automóvel in Quintas do Calhau.

How will it work?

To use the Retorna Machine, customers must download the Triciclo app, available for free download in the Android and iOS app stores. Through it, users will be able to dispose of their waste and receive “tricoins,” a virtual points system that allows consumers to exchange points for bonuses on their bills, as well as other benefits. The app also enables users to identify which Retorna Machine is closest to their home, check the status of the machine, and donate their points to charitable institutions.

Promoted by the Distributor since 2011, E+ Recycling collected about 5,100 tons of waste in 2023 across its 12 recycling points spread throughout the state, resulting in approximately R$ 256,000 in discounts on the electricity bills of Maranhão families. The Project promotes awareness and environmental preservation actions, combating the harm caused by solid waste, which is often improperly disposed of in the environment, as well as spreading the culture of selective collection through public awareness.

Equatorial Maranhão, which has social and environmental responsibility as one of its values, promotes recycling and encourages the donation of bonuses to social institutions, committing to the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda. Among the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is Action Against Global Climate Change, which focuses, among other factors, on combating pollution in all environments.
