As a way of materializing its commitment to social, environmental, and economic spheres, LEROY MERLIN – one of the largest retail chains in Brazil, focused on complete solutions for the home – initiates a partnership with Ambipar Group, a Brazilian multinational and pioneer in environmental management solutions, through Ambipar Triciclo, a reference in sustainable solutions, to offer the population spaces dedicated to selective collection of recyclable materials.
The project involves the installation of eco-points for the collection of recyclable items in six units of the retail company, located in Fortaleza (CE), Curitiba Sul (PR), Guarulhos (SP), Tietê (SP), Interlagos (SP), and Morumbi (SP). In the containers, called Deixaki, consumers can dispose of large volumes and different types of post-consumer materials, such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminum/steel cans, electronic devices, and metal scraps. All materials collected by the eco-points are sent to Ambipar Group for reuse and recycling, generating raw materials, income, and employment opportunities.
Each packaging item is worth a digital currency called “tricoins” in the Triciclo Loyalty Program, which can be exchanged for various benefits, ranging from credits on the Bilhete Único – a card that provides access to public transportation in São Paulo, for example – to mobile phone top-ups and positive balances in some digital banks, such as Mercado Pago and PagBank PagSeguro. To access these benefits, it is necessary to register for free through the Ambipar Triciclo app or website.
According to Mauro Filgueiras, Responsible Development Manager at LEROY MERLIN, this initiative aligns with the brand’s fortified pillars and contributes to society as a whole. “Sustainability is part of LEROY MERLIN’s DNA, so we act on different fronts, whether in the conception and development of positive products, circular economy proposals, or waste management. This is an emerging issue, so we need to provide effective solutions and raise awareness among people,” he comments.
For Ambipar and its businesses, regeneration is part of their purpose, with the principles of the circular economy serving as pillars: the elimination of waste and pollution, the maintenance of products and materials in use, and the regeneration of natural systems. “With this initiative, Ambipar Triciclo works towards the development of equipment that also serves to educate the population. Just by correctly disposing of materials in one of Triciclo’s three machines – Deixaki, Retorna Machine, and Recicla Pharma – consumers have the opportunity to obtain resources while doing their part in waste disposal,” says Felipe Lagrotta Nassar Cury, CEO at Ambipar Triciclo Soluções Sustentáveis.
