Partnerships enable increased volumes of steel, plastic, and cardboard sent for recycling.

Another great result to be celebrated: the goals established for the compliance of the paint industry with the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) were achieved last year.

The target for steel, approximately 54,000 tons, was exceeded by over 20%, thanks to the Prolata program, in which Abrafati has been a partner for many years. The work in this field, already well-established and constantly improving, involves three main fronts of action on a national level: cooperatives of waste pickers, collection centers, and voluntary drop-off points, as well as environmental education initiatives.

Regarding plastic and cardboard, the goal for the paint sector in 2022 was 3,285 tons. This volume was achieved through coordinated efforts by Boomera Ambipar, which prioritized actions with waste pickers’ cooperatives from all regions of the country. The participating cooperatives in this project, accounting for 90% of the volume of both materials, received support for process improvements, management, and infrastructure.

These results reflect the sector’s commitment to finding the best solutions for the disposal of post-consumer packaging of architectural coatings. They also reaffirm its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
