The São Paulo government announced on Thursday (July 6) a project in partnership with the private sector aimed at planting 12 million trees to restore the Atlantic Forest in São Paulo, covering an area equivalent to 38 Ibirapuera Parks.

The project, named ‘AR Corridors of Life,’ was developed in cooperation with the Anglo-Swedish bio-pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, which promises to invest over R$ 350 million and create 400 jobs.

Biofílica Ambipar and the Institute for Ecological Research (IPÊ) are also part of the project.

The idea is to create ecological corridors through the restoration of native vegetation of the Atlantic Forest and remaining forest fragments in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, in the far west of the state.

The pharmaceutical company stated that the investment is part of the global AZ Forest project, which aims to plant over 200 million trees worldwide by the end of 2030.
