Rio de Janeiro will once again be the global center of the oil industry at the 20th edition of Rio Oil & Gas, from September 26 to 29, on Olympic Boulevard, in the port region of the state capital. The expectation of the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), organizer of the event, is to receive about 40 thousand participants, who will circulate through 51 thousand m² of six warehouses, where the fair and the congress with the main executives and specialists will take place. of the sector in Brazil and in the world. More than 350 exhibitors, national and international, will be present.

In 2022, the event will once again be in person, but with live transmission from the Congress and the sponsors’ studios. It’s the perfect opportunity for those who can’t be present in addition to watching the content, being able to contact exhibitors and sponsors and networking virtually. The in-person version will also feature exclusive spaces for networking and coworking meetings.

Another novelty of the edition is the legacy that Rio Oil & Gas will leave for the city of Rio de Janeiro. IBP invested to renovate the “Armazém do Kobra”, known for the “Mural Etnias”, by the artist Eduardo Kobra, and which during the event will be renamed “Armazém IBP”. With this reform, the municipality gains a new space for holding large-scale events, which guarantees another source of employment and income generation for the local economy. In recent years, the warehouse was functioning only as a parking lot.

“The oil industry’s mission is to ensure the world’s energy supply and finance the journey towards a low carbon economy. In the current climate emergency scenario, the sector joins even more efforts to provide the investments and technologies necessary for the energy transition. Rio Oil & Gas 2022 is an opportunity for dialogue and exchange of information for the industry in search of innovative solutions that reaffirm the fundamental role of our industry for the country and its importance to the world, in terms of intense debate on energy security” , says Roberto Ardenghy, president of the IBP.

In this edition, nine countries have already confirmed their presence at the event and will set up pavilions at the event’s fair – Angola, Germany, Argentina, Austria, Iran, Italy, United Kingdom, France and Norway. Iran and Angola participate for the first time. Austria returns to Rio Oil & Gas after eight years. In addition, during the event, researchers from 20 countries will present technical papers – in the Upstream, Midstream & Downstream, Natural Gas & Energy and Industry of the Future axes.

This year, large companies in the oil and gas industry will also debut among the exhibitors. This is the case of PETRONAS, from Malaysia; from Karoon, from Australia; from Trident Energy, Brazilian; and Acelen, a Brazilian company created by the Mubadala Capital fund.

“Rio Oil & Gas has been bringing together specialists and companies from Brazil and abroad for 40 years in qualified debates about our industry, stimulating knowledge and generating business in the sector. This year, the event adds a legacy to the population of Rio de Janeiro, with the recovery of the ‘Armazém Kobra’, which is already a postcard of the city and will become a space dedicated to holding major events”, says the executive director. of the IBP, Fernanda Delgado.

Industry and Debate

For exploration and production alone, the IBP estimates investments of US$ 183 billion and tax collection of US$ 622 billion in the accumulated period from 2022 to 2031, as well as an average generation of 445 thousand jobs per year in this period.
