To promote the qualification of the Brazilian business sector in relation to qualified carbon credits, Ambipar and the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) produced an important document on the voluntary carbon market.

The technical note, built from the conclusion of workshops held in 2022, concentrates the main points of the work and brings voluntary market standards, which compares initiatives, volumes of credit transactions, trends in corporate management mechanisms and cases of companies associated with the CEBDS.

The content can be used as a database both for consultation and for decision-making in planning the decarbonization of the Brazilian economy by various actors in the business sector.

“This document is extremely relevant if we want the carbon market to move forward with environmental integrity and additionality. This also means that we need to teach and bring knowledge to those who move not only the Brazilian economy, but the world economy, to have a more critical eye and to know what quality projects and credits are” — comments Annie Groth, Head of Advocacy & Policy at Biophilic Ambipar.

Regarding quality carbon credits, Marina Grossi, president of CEBDS, emphasizes the social issue involved. “Brazil has the full conditions to make the best credits, which are those in which not only the environmental component of reducing emissions are embedded, but also the social component, that is, the entire chain, impact caused locally and all social benefits as well. can be valued”.

It is worth remembering that the voluntary carbon market is one of the main and most important sources of credits for the reduction and removal of greenhouse gas emissions, essential for meeting the goals established at COP27. Therefore, the business sector is a fundamental and transformative agent for the climate ambition agenda.
