With teams in several states of Brazil, in Argentina, Portugal, the United States, and China, 247 has completely offset its emissions.
Source 247 – Editora 247, responsible for publishing the website Brasil 247 and TV 247, has offset the carbon emissions associated with its journalistic and business operations, totaling 36 tons of CO₂ equivalent. Thus, in the year of COP 30, Brasil 247 and TV 247 become the first media outlets in Brazil – and perhaps in the world – to completely offset their carbon emissions.

“This is a milestone in our history, which reinforces our commitment to sustainability without giving up quality information,” says journalist Leonardo Attuch, who founded the company at the turn of 2010 to 2011. Thanks to a predominantly remote work model, facilitated by new technologies, Brasil 247 currently maintains journalists in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Federal District, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Ceará, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, and Rondônia. In addition, the company has correspondents in Buenos Aires, Argentina, New York, United States, Beijing, China, and an IT professional in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Brasil 247 website is updated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while TV 247 broadcasts live programming from 6:30 a.m. until midnight, with anchors who do not need to commute to physical studios – which reduces carbon emissions and also contributes to greater regional diversity in our programming. Watch below the testimony of our professionals:
The offset was carried out through the purchase and retirement of carbon credits from the REDD+ Jari Amapá project (VCS ID 1115), certified by Verra, with additional CCB-Biodiversity Gold recognition. The action received international certificates issued by Ambipar, linked to the Verified Carbon Standard.
The initiative stems from a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Although the newsroom operates mostly under a remote work model — which reduces commuting, paper consumption, and logistics — the company acknowledges that specific activities such as travel, events, and on-site coverage generate emissions that need to be measured and offset. All these emissions were accounted for – including the energy consumption of each professional working remotely.
Editora 247 operates as a “digital newsroom,” meaning a fully digital editorial office, with 100% digital production and distribution, a team distributed across the country and around the world – and physical presence only when necessary. This model was recently recognized by Google News Initiative as innovative and with major contributions to other newsrooms around the globe.
Even with a reduced footprint, the company decided to move from passive mitigation to active compensation of residual emissions – a step aligned with globally recognized climate responsibility practices. In the year when Brazil hosts COP30 in Belém, Editora 247 decided this would be one of its major corporate priorities.
The REDD+ Vale do Jari Program, a partnership between Ambipar Environment and Grupo Jari, brings together three initiatives – Jari Amapá, Jari Pará, and Panãma – and will complete 14 years of Amazon conservation in 2025. The pioneering REDD+ Jari Amapá Project covers about 117,000 hectares in the state, where sustainable management and agro-extractive activities are developed, generating jobs and income for local families.
The initiatives seek to involve rural producers in family farming with support from civil society organizations, strengthening regional production chains, promoting socioeconomic development, and ensuring food security for communities.
The project also works to protect native forests in the state of Amapá, combating deforestation and promoting social and environmental benefits for local communities.
Among its positive impacts are the preservation of the Amazon, the conservation of species, and the generation of sustainable income.
The initiative aligns with Editora 247’s editorial commitment to integrate environmental preservation, social development, and the construction of a sustainable Brazil, which also includes the production of serious, responsible, and quality information. Check out our certification below:
