The company’s COO, Dennys Spencer, who has more than 350 bases spread around the world, is the guest in the new episode of the ESG from A to Z podcast.

During the pandemic, Ambipar Response expanded its portfolio of solutions and began offering environmental disinfection services. As you can imagine, the goal was — and still is — to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

“We started offering this solution after an acquisition in England,” says Dennys Spencer, the company’s COO, in the new episode of ESG from A to Z, by EXAME. “The demand for environmental disinfection is not as high as it was at the beginning of the pandemic, but it is still valued by companies.” Check out the full episode below.

These types of cleanings use specific products based on ammonia. The substance is a strong disinfectant capable of breaking down the outer lipid layer of the new coronavirus, eliminating it (it also eliminates other viruses, as well as bacteria and fungi).

Founded 25 years ago, Ambipar specializes in waste management solutions, focusing on the circular economy, and responding to environmental accidents. They also provide cleaning services, mechanized or manual, tank transfers, decommissioning, demolition, and soil remediation.

“The ESG movement has helped companies become aware of their role in preserving the environment,” says Spencer.

The segment he leads is responsible for crisis management and responding to environmental, chemical, and biological emergencies that affect health, the environment, and property, as well as firefighting and natural disasters. “We are the vertical that connects all areas of the company,” explains the executive.

ESG: environmental challenges

With more than 350 bases spread across the world — the result of more than 27 acquisitions — the company has a privileged view of the current environmental challenges facing humanity. Many of these challenges have been exacerbated by global warming, which requires Spencer’s team to constantly reinvent itself.

Due to the increasing frequency of industrial fires, Ambipar brought the American company Williams Fire and Hazard Control, a reference in firefighting accidents, to Brazil.

This partnership ensures that the best equipment to deal with such situations, as well as specialized labor, are available to the Brazilian market.

The company’s bases are located in 18 countries in South America, North America, Europe, Africa, and Antarctica.

Emergency response

Certified under the UNE-ISO 22320 standard, the Emergency Control and Management Center (Cecoe) is composed of crisis experts who provide decision-makers with detailed information on critical scenarios and ensure rapid and effective communication and resource logistics. The center has a 24/7 toll-free hotline, 365 days a year.

Ambipar Response is prepared to respond to environmental emergencies occurring on highways, railways, airports, ports, port terminals, industries, mining sites, and pipelines. But they also focus on accident prevention. “If the client is unaware of the risks involved in their operation, it becomes much more difficult to devise a strategy to mitigate disasters,” explains the COO.

That’s why the company offers a portfolio with various types of training focused on emergency response specialization, occupational risk prevention, and workplace safety, as well as conducting simulations of accidents with real emergency scenarios.

The group’s training centers are located in Chile, Peru, the United States, and Brazil. The one here — the largest in Latin America — is located in the city of Nova Odessa, São Paulo.

Ambipar’s technical team consists of doctors and masters in natural sciences, environmental, chemical, and occupational safety engineers, oceanographers, biologists, and environmental managers. Hence, the greater effectiveness of accident prevention plans in different transportation modes, industrial plants, dams, and port terminals.
