São Paulo, July 28, 2023 – The sustainability report of Ambipar (AMBP3), released on the 27th, shows that the company continues to expand its forest conservation business. With 2 million hectares of preserved forests, which is nearly 90% of the territory of Sergipe, the company operates in projects ranging from forest conservation to land use.

The projects, known as Manoa and Life Corridors, are located in the states of Pará, Amapá, Acre, Rondônia, and São Paulo.

In 2022, the company also made progress in trading carbon credits through crypto-assets. They sold 4,128 ABFY, which represents the offset of over 4 million tons of CO2e, via the Ambify platform. Known as utility tokens, they are traded on Brazilian and foreign platforms.

Furthermore, with the acquisition of 16 companies in the last year and reaching approximately 14,000 employees, the company reinforces its position among the Brazilian companies with the largest number of offices abroad.

With the expansion to 24 more countries in 2022, the company is now present in 40 nations, a number even higher than the two largest publicly traded companies on the Brazilian stock exchange. Ambipar has a total of 400 operational bases worldwide and has almost quadrupled its number of employees since 2020.

Statistics

Ambipar, the country’s leading environmental management company, maintains an area of 730,000 hectares of forest conservation projects, equivalent to about 5 times the territory of the city of São Paulo. In total, there are 2 million hectares of monitored area in REDD+ projects in the Amazon. Last year, it sequestered carbon dioxide equivalent to the emissions of 2.1 million vehicles circulating an average of 12,900 km per year (distance from Rio de Janeiro to Afghanistan). For comparison, according to IBGE, it is the same amount of cars in the city of Rio de Janeiro. These numbers are noteworthy given the advancement of discussions on the regulation of the carbon credit market in the country. According to the International Finance Institute, this sector is expected to move $100 billion per year by 2050.

Circular economy to reduce waste

The data is part of the 2022 Annual and Sustainability Report, which presents the market with a volume of 1.65 million tons of valued waste, meaning waste reused by the company. Through its circular economy actions, the company managed to divert waste equivalent to what would be produced by 4.1 million people in a year from landfills.

Awards and recognition

One of the main innovations created by Ambipar in the last year, which contributed to waste management and reforestation, is the biocapsules. Made with collagen obtained from pharmaceutical industry waste, they are biodegradable and contain native tree seeds to be dispersed. Drones are used to increase their reach and access to locations where planting would be much more difficult.

The initiative has already dispersed over 1.2 million biocapsules into the soil, transforming waste into trees, and has received over 10 awards in Brazil and abroad.

These numbers support the company’s position as a global leader in crisis and emergency management in the United States. They serve more than 1,200 clients in the oil, transportation, energy, media, technology, and North American public sectors.

Considering Ambipar’s contribution to preserving the world for future generations, in 2022, the company was invited to become an institutional supporter of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. The company formally took on the mission to contribute to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In this regard, by working on decarbonization projects, about 3.3 million tCO2eq of emissions are sequestered annually by Biofílica Ambipar Environment projects, Ambipar’s carbon market arm.

The Waste Management and Valorization Chain were also expanded, incorporating the reverse logistics of tires and rubber for co-processing. The acquisition strengthens Ambipar’s presence in Northeast Brazil, particularly in the rubber industry, with the capacity to process over 4,500 tons of tires and rubber per year.
