Lwart is collecting used oil in all Vilas Sertões.

The biggest rally in the world promotes responsible management of waste and oils, planting of biocapsules and delivery of water filters to the quilombola community through the actions of partners in the competition.

Sertões BRB has been giving examples of sustainable partnerships focused on responsible waste management, tree preservation and basic sanitation. The actions were only possible through partnerships that the biggest rally in the world promotes with the companies Conasa, Lwart and Ambify. The actions took place in several cities along the route, which will be concluded in Salinópolis (PA), after 7,202 km of route.

Conasa is one of the partners that was present during Sertões’ passage through Palmas (TO) and Mateiros (TO). In the state capital, the company sponsored the waste management of Vila Sertões during the 2nd and 3rd of September, when the competition remained in the city. The initiative also aimed to generate income for the local community by working with cooperatives to sort and dispose of generated waste.

In the city of Mateiros, destination of the eighth stage of the competition, Conasa also delivered 60 water purifying filters to families and the school of the Quilombola Boa Esperança Community. The locality has no sanitation and the water consumed and used by the residents comes from streams and an artesian well. Now with the filters, the community will have an important asset for the population’s health.

Another outstanding initiative is the work of Lwart Soluções Ambientais. The company collects used lubricating oil and re-refines the material that is transformed into base oil. The material returns to lubricant producers and to the market again without harming nature. This work was carried out at all stages of Sertões BRB, which started in Foz do Iguaçu (PR) and ended in Salinópolis (PA), but in Palmas, especially, the company was also able to collect contaminated solid waste.

Sertões BRB is also a zero carbon event and for that it has a partnership with Ambify, a company of the Ambipar group, focused on offset initiatives. In addition to offsetting all the carbon emitted for the competition through preservation and reforestation actions, Ambify also carried out a special action in the passage of the biggest rally in the world in Palmas.

Another work that Ambify carries out is the transformation of waste into trees through biocapsules. The technology involves collagen capsules (pharmaceutical industry waste), native seeds and an organic compound made from pulp and paper industry waste. The dispersion of biocapsules is done through drones, enabling the reforestation of remote areas. At Vila Sertões in Palmas, awareness-raising and seedling planting workshops were held, where participants left with their biocapsule already planted in their own container.

What did they say:

Leonora Guedes, Executive Director of Sertões BRB

“Sertões BRB is a zero carbon event and these actions show the event’s concern with environmental impact and with the intention of leaving a legacy for the cities where it takes place. We don’t just want to pass with the cars accelerating, Sertões wants to leave a positive mark on the host cities. The stage of Sertões is Brazil and nothing more special than, through this action, also being able to improve the quality of life of a quilombola community as in the case of the partnership with Conasa, for example”.

Mario Marcondes Neto, CEO of Conasa

“In addition to donating the filter intended for drinking water to all families in the community, we also promoted an awareness-raising action on the importance of consuming treated water, in a social and educational initiative that contributes to the health of residents and the dissemination of knowledge about water care in food intake and food preparation.”

João Valente, Director of Digital Assets at Ambipar

“Being a partner in such an important event is a satisfaction for us. We arrived to contribute and strengthen actions for the benefit of society and the environment, making Sertões a zero carbon event. We hope that together we can make society aware of the importance of combating climate change and preserving the environment”.

Marcelo Murad, Collection and Logistics Director

“We managed to organize the collection of used oil in all the cities where Sertões BRB will pass. Then we send this oil for refining and it goes back to the production chain and can be transformed again into automotive lubricant, insulating mineral oil for transformers, oil for agricultural spraying, production of grease for the food sector and can even be sold to other chains such as of civil waterproofing”.
