Tamoios News - 09/21/2023

Tamoios Concessionaire conducted its 5th Accident Drill on Wednesday (20), in partnership with various institutions in the region. The exercise took place inside the Antônio de Queiroz Galvão Tunnel of the Serra Nova section of the Tamoios Highway – the largest road tunnel in Brazil. The simulation also included a Monitoring Room at Tamoios Headquarters (located at km 65 of the highway), where visitors could follow in real-time the activities developed at multiple points inside the tunnel through the concessionaire’s cameras.

The exercise involved simulating a truck accident that suddenly stops inside the tunnel due to an electrical malfunction in the truck itself. In the scenario, a van that was coming behind brakes abruptly upon seeing the incident, causing a second truck to collide with its rear. This collision results in multiple casualties in the van and the leakage of the hazardous substance the truck was carrying. In this simulation, the concessionaire activates emergency teams that start attending to the victims, extinguishing the fire, and controlling the leakage.

One of the objectives of the drill was to test the synergy of emergency teams in extreme situations involving multiple simultaneous occurrences. In addition to Tamoios Concessionaire teams, teams from the Fire Department, Military Highway Police (PMRv), SAMU, GRAU, Cetesb, and Ambipar participated in the drill. The entire operation was monitored by Artesp – the Regulatory Agency.

The exercise also tested the operation of the modern and unprecedented technology of the Tamoios Serra Nova tunnels, such as fans, security cameras, sensors, emergency phones, loudspeakers, emergency tunnel, fire doors, hydrants, water pipelines, and other items available to users and emergency teams.

According to Tamoios Operations Manager, Diêgo Dutra, “this 5th Tamoios Drill demonstrates the commitment of the concessionaire and other institutions in the State of SP to the safety of users.”
